The problem is that they require hours and hours of boring cardio, not to mention, that it can be extremely strenuous on your body. Around the late 1980s, yoga started to become an extremely popular way for people to start losing weight. So much so, that there was a massive grow in yoga centres around the world.
The way it works is by causing you to hold difficult positions for a great deal of time. In effect, it is like weight training without the weight – as you use your own body as the weight.
Should you start yoga if you want to get in shape? It really depends on how out of shape you are, yoga is not easy, it requires a large amount of strength (more than you would think) and a lot of flexibility. If you are considerably overweight, you may want to rethink yoga, if you only want to lose a little bit, then yoga would be right for you.

There are really two ways that you can get started with yoga, the first method is the home study course. If you head over to eBay or Amazon and do a search for yoga videos, then you will find hundreds. Just ensure that you buy one that is designed for beginners.
Once you’ve got your home study course, then all you would need is a nice place on the floor in your living room. That’s it, it really could not be simpler. On the only downside of this method is that you have to watch a screen, so there really is no way to know whether you are doing the exercise correctly or not.
The other method is the one that I prefer, that is, you join a yoga class. One that is specifically created for people that would like to lose weight. The main reason I recommend this approach is that it can be more fun, as you can interact with other people. Also, you will have an instructor there to show you what needs to be done. This is much more helpful then watching a video.
Another thing, the instructor can change up the class, so that it is more interesting. With a video, you just have to watch the same thing over and over again, so it can become quite repetitive.
That said, if you are thinking about yoga for weight loss, then I would recommend that you give it a try. It really is a great way to lose weight as it does not require the use of cardio.
You can also say to your friends that you are hip, because you are into Yoga. Heck, it might make you sound just that little bit more interesting.
